Toomas Toomepuu was born in Rhode Island, now resides and works in Rutland VT at a scrap yard and artist residency, Mac Steel AiR. Working out of a scrap yard, his furniture practice is led by material discovery, scavenging piles of scrap metal to find the next inspiration. The surprising forms and decay that exists in this environment challenges Toomepuu to design work that is in symbiosis with the material, rather than working against its defects.
