A Prayer for Princess Ozma

Cooper Wright’s studio practice traverses sculpture, furniture, digital fabrication, and ceramics, using historical forms as a structural framework for new forms of image making and ornamentation. This devotional screen combines Gothic motifs with 3D-printed ceramic tiles whose incised relief draws from an image of Princess Ozma being crowned with a halo, collapsing fantasy and religious iconography. Ozma’s role as the hidden but rightful ruler of Oz becomes a contemplative figure for thinking about the possibility that things are not always what they seem.
